Pleated, sculpted, colored silks. In a rigorous and methodical quest, the intrinsic properties of different silk fabrics are used to create varied collections. The techniques practiced in the Sophie Guyot’s workshop are explored to produce accessories ranging from the simplest to the most complex in decoration: plain, piece dyeing, reserved pattern dyeing, flat frame printing, pleating .
Sophie Guyot creates her exceptional silk fabrics in her workshop at the foot of the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in Lyon, the city’s historic silk district. Working with pure white or unbleached silk, her core expertise lies in the transformation of this noble material: needle pleating, dyeing and pattern creation, cutting, tailoring, and finishing… The pieces, woven in small batches, are produced on a Jacquard loom in collaboration with Lyon-based weaving workshops.
The pieces shown here are examples; a much wider selection is available at the Gallery. Further information is available on request.
