This artist creates earthenware pieces decorated using the majolica techique, which involves decorating on “raw” or unfired slip. This traditional French technique allows for beautiful, rich colors whose vibrance doesn’t fade over time. Inspired by 17th and 18th century European earthenware motifs, her thrown or coiled pieces take on unquestionably modern shapes.
From vases and planters to dishes and candlesticks, Cécile Lowy’s elegant and joyful ceramics transgress traditional aesthetic codes and bring this centuries-old technique into the sphere of contemporary creation.
