Artist Bertrand Girard paints Parisian scenes purely from his imagination. His impressionistic cityscapes give a sense of nostalgia for everyday life in France.
According to him, “Painting is like writing a story, reflections before a blank page, waiting for an idea to arrive, grasping inspiration when it apprears and brings the appropriate flavor to a scene…” For me, painting is not so much about technical prowess as about bringing an imaged language to fruition.
Driven by nostalgia, I began painting imagined scenes of people in cafés, in restaurants, in Parisian cityscapes or in scenes from life.
